Pricing and billing
What the router charges for, the free credit, buying more, refunds, and what happens at zero.
The price#
You pay for what the cache serves, nothing else.
- $0.002 per 1,000 characters served from the cache, counted on the same characters the dashboard’s Usage page shows.
- Characters your provider synthesizes are free here. Your provider already bills you for them, on your own key, at your own rates.
- No subscription, no minimum and no per-request fee.
A 50-character sentence served from the cache costs $0.0001. Usage is taken from your credit about once a minute, so the balance in the dashboard can trail your traffic by a minute.
Free credit#
Every new org starts with $10 of credit, enough for 5 million characters served from the cache. You don’t need a card to sign up.
Buying credit#
Writers and admins of an org buy prepaid packs on the dashboard’s Billing page. Each pack adds exactly its price in credit. Credit never expires.
| Pack | Characters served from cache |
|---|---|
| $10 | 5 million |
| $50 | 25 million |
| $100 | 50 million |
| $500 | 250 million |
| $1,000 | 500 million |
| $5,000 | 2.5 billion |
Checkout is hosted by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record: it takes the payment, handles any taxes that apply where you are, and issues the invoice. The credit appears on the Billing page within seconds of paying.
Running out#
The router never cuts off a call in progress. When your balance reaches zero, it refuses new connections and requests with insufficient_credits (HTTP 402) until you buy more; connections already open carry on until they close, so the balance can dip slightly below zero. The next purchase settles that.
The dashboard warns you below $1. See Errors for how each surface reports the refusal.
Refunds#
- Credit you bought and haven’t used is refundable on request within 30 days of the purchase, to the original payment method, through Dodo Payments.
- For a pack you’ve partly used, the refund covers the unused part.
- Credit already used, and the $10 free credit, aren’t refundable.
Write to [email protected] from your account’s email with the payment’s date. A refund removes the refunded credit from your balance and shows in its history. The full policy is in the terms.
Payments and invoices#
Dodo Payments emails the receipt and invoice for every purchase. The Billing page lists every purchase, refund and day of usage against your credit.
